Course content
Multicultural situation in Czech lands. Older periods of German literature and culture in the Czech lands. Birth of German and Czech nationalism, the situation of German and German-Jewish minority in the Czech lands. Prague German literature and culture vs. Literature and Culture in the so-called. Sudetenland region. Prague German cultural enclave and Czech culture. Prague German culture in a European context. West Bohemia and other centers of German culture in the country. Moravian authors writing in German and culture of Moravian Germans. Silesia region as an important multicultural and culture Silesian Germans. German-Jewish and Czech-Jewish authors in the Czech Republic: comparison of different cultural contexts.

Students are able to - Orientate in the literary, journalistic, theater and visual arts German and German-Jewish personalities - Featuring the works and biographies of regional artists in the context of Czech culture and wider cultural and socio-historical context - Identify the specific German-speaking authors in the Czech Republic - Take into account the specifics of the analysis and interpretation of works by local authors writing in German
