Course content
The course includes these items 1. Fundamental concepts and methods of quantitative description of reality. 2. Data collecting, data processing and evaluation of statistical data. 3. Statistical tables and graphic representations of statistical data. 4. Types of statistical distributions, specific traits of distribution geografhical data.. 5. Simple descriptive characteristics of one-dimensional and two dimensional files /measures of central tendency/. Geographical median, geografhical centre. 6. Simple descriptive characteristics of one-dimensional and two dimensional files /quantiles, measures of variability/. Gini coefficient of concentration. 7. Simple descriptive characteristics of one-dimensional and two dimensional files /measures of variability, skewness and kurtosis/. 8. Measures of association /correlation and dependence/. 9. Measures of association /regression analysis/. 10. Time series analysis /index analysis/. 11. Theoretical frequency distribution /normal distribution/. 12. Theoretical frequency distribution /other examples/. 13. Examples of specific mathematical-statistical and graphic methods used in geography and their practical use.

learning outcomes
Students will: - be able to process statistical tables and graphs of various types, even in digital form; - be able to correctly cite sources of the used statistical data; - be acquainted with the basic statistical literature and various statistical sources; - grasp the importance of statistics and statistical data processing for geography and for practice at all; - cope with the basic statistical terminology; - be able to make the basic characteristics of statistical files; - be able to use other chosen statistical methods (see course content).
