Course content
Status and importance of transportation in the national economy, a subject of transport geography. Historical geography of transportation. Patterns of the spatial distribution of transport networks. Transportation accessibility, typology and hierarchy. Traffic location and transportation facilities. Regionalization and prolicies. Transport policy. The impact of transportation on the environment. The specifics of the spatial distribution of railway, road, air, sea and inland transportation and other modes. Intermodal transportation. Telecommunication. Status and importance of services in the national economy. Classification of services. Patterns of spatial distribution of services, hierarchy of services. Services in developed and developing countries. Essence, economic importance, types and forms of tourism. Prerequisites of tourism in the world. Sustainable development of international tourism.

To pass this course students should be acquainted with the fundamental characteristics of various transport modes and their relevance to human economic activities. Furthermore they are expected to have fundamental knowledge in the attractiveness of various regions of the world in terms of tourism.

Explain the spatial distribution of various modes of transport (their hubs and routes) in the world. Justify the distribution in term of the historical development and natural and socio-economic conditions of particular regions. Explain the importance of transportation for human economic activities; understand the position of various regions of the world in term of tourism and its economic importance to these regions.
