Course content
The course includes these items: 1. Subject, tasks, methods, development and current state of population geography. 2. Basic categories of demographic phenomena, fundamental indicators of population status and reproduction. 3. Detection, processing and analysis of demographic indicators. 4. Development of population in our country and in the world, population thinking, theories and forecasts. 5. Spatial aspects of human population development. 6. Current population distribution and factors affecting it. 7. Population dynamics. 8. Population structure - according to biological and economic characteristics. 9. Population structure - according to cultural symbols. 10. Subject, tasks, methods, development and current state of population geography and settlements geography. 11. Rural settlement. 12. Urban population, urbanization process. 13. Settlement systems. Relation between the city and hinterland. Selected global problems of mankind and possibilities of their solution.

learning outcomes
Students: - grasp the status of the field in the system of scientific disciplines and its links to other disciplines; - cope with scientific terminology; - are acquainted with the fundamental literature in the fields of population geography, geography of settlements and demography; - are able to use the sources of population data and settlements data; - grasp the meaning of various demographic indicators and they are able to calculate them from primary data, evaluate them and process them; - are able to explain various demographic processes and phenomena and grasp the connection between them; - are able to characterize the structure of the population according to various criteria; - are able to describe the characteristics of various types of settlements; - are able to explain the fundamental global problems related to population and propose at least partial options that could contribute to their solution.
