Course content
Basic information about the Czech Republic. Location of the CR and its significance. Status of the CR in the world. The CR on the maps. Czech statehood and development of the territory of our country. Administration structure of the CR, its development and present situation. Population of the CR. The development, changes of population and its structure based on census 2001 and 2011. Characteristics of settlement system in the Czech Republic - development and current state. The overall characterization of Czech economy. Agriculture, forestry and water economy in the Czech Republic. Industrial production in the CR. Mining industry. Energy industry. Manufacturing industry. Inovations in industrial production. Transport and traffic networks. Tertiary sector. Tourism and recreation. Foreign Trade. Socio-economic regionalization of the Czech Republic. Regions of the CR and their competitiveness.

learning outcomes
- to gain an overview of the location, population, settlement and economy of the Czech Republic and to be able to explain these issues according to the required level of expertise and various hierarchical level of regions; - to cope with terminology; - to be acquainted with the fundamental literature about the Czech Republic and be able to use it; - to be aware of the need to continually update their knowledge in connection with the development of the society and economy; - to be able to select and apply general knowledge to the characteristics of the selected regions; - in case students are preparing for teaching career, to be able to select information about the Czech Republic for the needs of educational transformation of the curriculum for secondary schools;

- to be able to use various maps of the Czech Republic, including digital maps; - to know sources of statistical data about the Czech Republic and to be able to process and analyze this data and deduce results; - in case students are preparing for teaching career, to be able to select information about the Czech Republic for needs of the educational transformation of the curriculum for secondary schools;
