Course content
This course consists of these issues: Civilization on the Earth, its evolution and characteristics of its present state. A global approach to solving problems. Analysis of problems (causes and basis). Democratic development. Nutrition, health and diseases in population. Warfare threat. Exhaustibility of natural resources. Environmental threats. Natural disasters. The principle of sustainable development. Education for global responsibility. An overview of topics of lectures/seminars: ? Models of the development - The principle of sustainable development ? Global diseases - HIV / AIDS ? Biodiversity ? Global Warming ? Global terrorism ? Nuclear power, power stations and fuel ? Orientation in different cultures

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture supplemented with a discussion, Multimedia supported teaching, Seminar
  • Presentation preparation (report) (1-10) - 10 hours per semester
  • Team project (50/number of students) - 10 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report in a foreign language) (10-15) - 15 hours per semester

professional knowledge
To pass the course students are expected to understand a foreign language text and have basic knowledge of the global problems. Furthermore they are expected to be active in seminars and willing to engage in discussions.
learning outcomes
Students will broaden their knowledge about some of the global problems and they will grasp particular relations. They will be able to discuss potential approaches to solving the global problems both on global and local levels.
