Course content
Overview of philosophy of history since Antiquity till presence. The course is specialized on presentation of philosophicaly-historical visions in most important historical periods of European culture: archaic Greece, classical and later Antiquity, Patristic, Middle Ages, Renaissance, early Modern Age, Enlightment, thinking of 19th century, modern philosophy. 1. Introduction of philosophy of history. 2. Philosophy of history and Greek thinking. 3. Christianity and historicity: history of salvation, eschatology. 4. Philosophy of history in Middle Ages. 5. Philosophy of history in Renaissance. 6. Philosophy of history in Modern Ages thinking, idea of theoretical progress. 7. Progressivistical philosophy of history in 19th centrury (Positivism, Marxism). 8. Philosophy of history in 20th century. 9. Critics of philosophy of history ( Marquard, J.-F. Lyotard, H. Blumenberg). 10. Four visions of philosophy of history. 11. Anachronisms and history in European thinking. 12. Externalism and Internalism: two visions of history of thinking. 13. Reserve.

learning outcomes
Students will define and describe basic streams of philosophy of history. They will diferentiate particular positions and will explain their relationship in historical intelectual, social and cultural context. They will remember, describe and define basic cathegories of philosophy and history. They will aplicate knowledge of philosophicaly-historical cathegories on standard historiographical works. Student will analyse and compare presumptions of philosophicaly-historical conceptions. They will summarize and criticaly evaluate its influence for the history of European culture.
