Course content
Course provides an overview of development of philosophy of history from ancient period to the present day. Ancient philosophy of history. Cyclic conception of history. Christian and medieval conception of history. Renaissance philosophy of history. Modern philosophy of history - idea of progress of cognition. Philosophy of history in the period of enlightenment - idea of progress of mankind. Philosophy of history in the philosophy of 19th century (Kant, Herder, Hegel, Marx, positivism, historism, vitalism). Philosophy of history in the 20th century and criticism of philosophy of history (postmodernism, Blumenberg, Marquard).

learning outcomes
Students explicate main interpretations of both historical and systematic significance and they use key terms of philosophy of history correctly. They summarize basic ideas of the significant philosophers who were concerned with problems of history.
