Course content
History of Israel's religion The phenomenon of Babylon and a paradigm shift Phenomenology of Judaism, the basic concepts Holidays, calendar Rituals in life Principles of ethical monotheism. Torah The Talmud and the religious right. Ethics and the Problem of Evil Mystical currents. Rationalism. Enlightenment and modern era Eastern European Hasidism Directions in contemporary Judaism and their dynamics

learning outcomes
The students are able to: - Utilize correct terminology from religious studies, biblistics and hebraistics. - Summarize basic events, places and personalities of the biblical history and reflect them through their knowledge of religious studies and cultural anthropology. - Distinguish oral and written Torah. - Identify main intellectual streams of Judaism and name their essential personalities and works. - Evaluate an impact of historic events on the intellectual development of Judaism - Compare thanatological, theodetical and ethical principles of Judaism with other religious systems.
