Course content
1. The definition of the subject, its contents, its boundaries with related subjects within the framework of occupational medicine. Tasks for practice. 2. Assessment of health risks in the workplace. Categorization of work. 3. Valid legislation for the issues concerning occupational diseases. The Governmental Decree 290/1995 Coll. 4. Occupational diseases ? health endangered by work, illnesses linked to work. 5. Occupational diseases - Chapter I Occupational diseases caused by chemical substances 6. Occupational diseases - Chapter II Occupational diseases caused by physical factors (physical workload, working position, noise, vibrations, microclimate, radiation). 7. Occupational diseases - Chapter III Occupational diseases affecting the respiratory system. 8. Occupational diseases ? Chapter IV.-VI. Occupational diseases 9. Preventive health protection in workplaces, occupational medical care. 10. Investigation in case of suspected occupational disease, co-operation of all institutions involved in the investigation. 11. Indemnification of occupational diseases.

learning outcomes
Students are able to explain possible changes in health that may occur due to nature of executed work and due to the working conditions. They know the diagnostic methods for assessing harm induced by work. Students can explicate preventive measures in the area of health protection at workplaces.
