Course content
Lectures: 1.Introduction to scientific research, methodology, studying sources. The importance of research in health care. Monographs, journals, internet sources. The importance of publication of both positive and negative results of scientific work. Publication of faults and mistakes. Bases of working with scientific information. Computer literacy. 2.How to write an article into a journal. General principles of publication in professional journals. Prerequisities of a successful author. Publicational activity and its evaluation. How to write a diploma thesis - requirements, preparation, procedure, literary references. Formal aspects of scientific work. Citation index. The importance of publications for progress in science and medical practice. Rewieved journals, impact factor. 3.Methods of medical research and its specifics. Data harvesting and its range in health care, UZIS. Study methods of health state. Routine statistics (compulsory reports), individually planned investigation (international study HIS), sociologic methods (dialogue, questionnaire). 4.Screening as a method of secondary prevention, implementation of new screening methods into practice, referential method (golden standard). Ethics of falsely positive and falsely negative results. Examples of screening test used in medical practice. 5.Epidemiology and medical research, epidemiologic methods, prospective and retrospective methods. EBM - Evidence-based medicine. 6.Statistics and science. Statistics in medicine, importance in research. Epidemiology and statistics. Statistical investigation - phases. Analysis of results, assessment andconclusions of research. 7.Elemental statistical terms - statistical unit, definition, population, methods of random selection, characteristics of position and variability. Measuring scales. 8.Normal distribution. Estimation of arithmetic mean and probability. Hypothesis testing. 9.Experiments, laboratory research. Ethic committees. Animal testing, human testing. Minimal predictable risk. Ethics of scientific work, ethical aspects of experiments. Clinical experiments, controlled experiment, blind experiment, double-blind experiment. Ethics of placebo. 10.Ethics of scientific work. Ethical code of scientific worker, academic degrees (PhD., DrSc.). Ethics of experiments in health care. Publication of research results. 11.Evaluation of education. Discussion. Students' presentations. Credit.
