Course content
1. Introduction and history of demography, definition of demography, history, methods of gathering demographic data, resources , census of inhabitants, statistical data, central collecting of demographic data (Czech Statistical Office) 2. Demographic events- basic demographic indicators, process of demographic aging, indexes, exchange of population. Mortality (death rate- DR)- definition, total, crude, specific, infant mortality rate (IMR) , structure of causes of mortality, lethality, life expectancy (LE) , development and changes of these indicators, comparison with European countries (EU) 3. Natality (birth rate - BR) , fertility, abortion rate (AR) , indicators of reproduction, crude and net exchange, comparison with European countries (EU) Population problems in our country and in the world -possibilities of influencing reproductive process of population, governmental measurements for demographic natality regulation (support or decreasing natality). History, meaning and development trends. 4. Impact of demographic changes for the society - economics, insurance of adequate integrated medico-social care for inhabitants, relationships in society (ageism). 5. Method of standardization of data direct and indirect. Meaning of standardization , comparison of data. 6. Social legal change of inhabitants - marriages, divorces, development, causes, non married couples, trends, statistics, comparison with other countries. Migration - types of migration, causes, consequences, possibilities of influencing, trends, prognoses. 7. Household as a unit for demographic analyses. Economic structure of inhabitants - development of economic activity, indexes of economic burden, prognoses, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), division, problem of unemployment. 8. Regional and social structure of inhabitants - district, regional distribution, density of inhabitants, differences of demographic indicators in the regions, social structure of inhabitants. 9. Conclusion of basic knowledge, possibilities of using demographic data and knowledge about inhabitants in bachelor or diploma work and also in future profession. 10. Evaluation of education, eventually some proposals for the improvement of education. 11. Credit.
