Course content
1. Structure and agency - key debate in Political Science; pozitivist roots of Political Theory and the post-WWII behavioralism 2. Rational choice theory and organizational theory 3. Marxist theory 4. Normative theory - reaction to behavioralism and the Straussian approaches to the study of politics 5. Institutionalism 6. Theory of political system and structural-functional approach 7. Theory of political culture 8. Postmodern approaches 9. Power, authority, and legitimacy 10. State in the perpective of individual approaches; the critical approaches to state - feminism, environmentalism, poststructuralism 11. Elitism 12. Pluralism nad polyarchy

Graduates from this course can identify the most important approaches and methods in political science and are able to put them into context. Students will understand the perspectives of individual approaches and will be able to compare them. Students can apply the acquired knowledge on the analysis of particular political and social problems and are able to use presented methods in practice.
