Course content
1) Principes of stratigraphy (rules, terminology, review of chrono-, geo-, litho- a biostratigrafic units). 2) Palaeogeography (basis, continents, oceans and sea, plate tectonic). 3) Palaeoclimatology (climatic indicators, changes and ). 4) Evolution of life in the Precambrian (origin of life, evolution of procaryota, origin of eucaryota, vendozoa). 5) Evolution of life in the Phanerozoic (Cambrian evolution fauna). 6) Evolution of life in the Phanerozoic (Palaeozoic evolution fauna). 7) Evolution of life in the Phanerozoic (Modern evolution fauna). 8) Evolution of life in the Phanerozoic (Evolution of terrestric vertebrates: amphibians and reptils). 9) Evolution of life in the Phanerozoic (Evolution of terrestric vertebrates: birds and mammals). 10) Evolution of plants. 11) Evolution of fresh-water systems. 12) Mass extinctions. 13) Geological history of Central Europe and the Czech Republic.

know laws, principes and terminology of stratigraphy
know some selected index fossils of particular geological periods
know the most important paleontological sites and localities in the world and the Czech republic
know the geological history (environment, rocks, fossils) on the territory of the Czech Republic
professional skills
determine the significant fossils known from the territory of the Czech Republic
explain the main etaps the geological hisotory of the Earth and the Czech Republic
critically evaluate diverse opinions about the climatic changes (including the recent changes)
synthetize the general and historical geology data into the logical model of the recent world, with incorporation of the global tectonic model of the Earth
