Course content
1. Palaeontology (subject, terminology, history).General palaeontology. 2. Orifin of fossils. 3. Stratigraphy. 4. Palaeogeography in geological history. 5. Precambrian (stratigraphy, Earth crust, evolution of hydrophere and atmosphere, origin of life and eucaryota, Ediacaran fauna). 6. Cambrian (stratigraphy, Cambrian evolutionary fauna, Cambrian in the Czech Republic). 7. Ordovician, Silurian (stratigraphy, Paleozoic evolutionary fauna, occurrence in the Czech Republic). 8. Devonian(stratigraphy, terrestrization, occurrence in the Czech Republic) 9. Carbonifeorus, Permian(stratigraphy, Modern evolutionary fauna, Permian extinction, occurrence in the Czech Republic) 10. Triassic, Jurassic(stratigraphy, evolution of life, occurrence in the Czech Republic). 11. Cretaceous(stratigraphy, evolution of life, K/T extinction, occurrence in the Czech Republic). 12. Paleogene(stratigraphy, evolution of life, occurrence in the Czech Republic). 13. Neogeone(stratigraphy, climatic changes, occurrence in the Czech Republic). 14. Quarternary (stratigraphy, climatic changes, fauna and flora on territory of the Czech Republic). Practical lessons: 1.-13. Key fossil invertebrate groups (protozoans, sponges, corals, stromatopora, molluscs, echinoderms, trilobites, crustaceans, graptolites, important microfossils) and fossil plants (rhyniophyta, psilophyta, fers, lycopods, conifers, cycases, angiospermae etc.).

determine the significant fossils present on the territory of the Czech Republic
explain the main etaps the geological hisotory of the Earth and the Czech Republic
critically evaluate diverse opinions about the climatic changes (including the recent changes)
synthetize the general and historical geology data into the logical model of the recent world, with incorporation of the global tectonic model of the Earth
