Course content
1. Geoscientific curiosity and extremity - definition, examples, importance, classification. 2. Selected geoscientific curiosities and extremities of the world. 3. Selected geoscientific curiosities and extremities of the Czech Republic. 4. Geoscientific curiosities and extremities of the West and South Bohemia. 5. Travelogues - classic and historic. 6. Travelogues - modern and post-modern. 7. Reading and writing travelogue - use in the teaching of geography. 8. Remote and abandoned places in the world and Czech Republic. 9. Stay in the Arctic polar station. 10. Highest parts of the Alps, Pyrenees and High Tatra Mts. 11. Curiosities and extremities of desert landscapes of the Southeast of the USA and Near East. 12. Curiosities and extremities of Patagonia. 13. Extremes and curiosities of Sri Lankan landscape.

Students are expected to have the basic knowledge of geography (high school curriculum).
learning outcomes
Student will familiarize with geoscientific extremities and curiosities of region, Czech republic and the world in an entertaining and attractive manner. Students will learn curiosities from the historic voyages, from the expeditions, tours and educational exchanges of the lecturers. Students will also familiarize with selected ways of inclusion of reading travelogues into the teaching of geography. Student defines geoscientific curiosity and describes selected geoscientific extremities. Student clarifies the issues of defining extremity and describes attractiveness of geoscientific extremities and curiosities. Student will analyse one of the geoscientific extremities/curiosities and will design the way how to include it into the geography lesson. Student will familiarize with different ways how to classify geoscientific extremities and curiosities. Student will understand planning of geoscientific trips. Student will defend his opinions on the issues of geoscientific extremities and curiosities in the discussion.
