Course content
1) Origin of the Solar system and the Earth. Shape and relief of the Earth. Physical properties of the Earth (gravitation, magnetic field, heat). Isostasis. 2) Chemical composition of the Earth. General mineralogy. 3) Systematic mineralogy. 4) Rocks and their origin. Rocks classification and terminology. 5) Earth interior and covers (core, mantle, crust, hydrosphere, atmosphere). 6) Plate tectonic (convergent and divergent boundaries and associated processes, origin of oceans and mountains). 7-8) Endogenic processes: magma, tectonics, volcanism, earthquake. 9-11) Exogenic processes: rock decay, insolation, gravitation, water, ice, wind, sea activity. 12) Principes of stratigraphy. 13) Facies.
