Course content
Week 1 Introduction. Communicative activities. Week 2 Futur antérieur: form. Week 3 Expressing duration in the future. Week 4 Expressing conditions and restrictions. Week 5 Expressing aims, intentions and refusal. Week 6 Veolia: la mer a boire - text analysis. Project presentation. Week 7 Progress test. Civilisation: French economy. Week 8 Francophone literature - introduction. Week 9 Francophone literature - working with excerpts. Week 10 French from a different point of view - quotations, colloquial language and language of text messages. Week 11 Revision. Week 12 Final test. Week 13 Correcting final test.

  • Contact hours - 26 hours per semester

Students can: - express events that happened before another action in the past; - understand more complicated texts in passé simple; - express feelings, regret, reproach and hypothesis; - describe their favourite place and its history; - understand descriptions of particular places in a tourist guide; - use grammatical structures for expressing indirect speech in the past reasonably well; - understand longer personal letters; - express hope and disappointment.

Students can: - express duration of an activity in the future; - express conditions and restrictions; - have a conversation about their future job at a reasonable level; - describe changes; - present their personal plans, intentions and aims; - understand more complicated newspaper articles related to familiar subjects, e.g. economy and industry.
