Course content
Week 2 Places of interest and their history. Passé simple: forms and use. Week 3 Speaking about events that happened before another action in the past - le plus-que-parfait. Week 4 Le passé simple, le passé antérieur, le plus-que-parfait: use and exercises. Week 5 Tense shift. Week 6 Progress test. Saint-Rémy-de-Provence ? test analysis. Tourist guide. Civilisation: historical films, vocabulary, text analysis. Week 7 Past conjunctive: forms and use. Expressing regret, reproach and conditions. Week 8 Expressing feelings. Week 9 Explaining. Expressing hope and disappointment. Week 10 Asking for information in writing. Letters. Music and lyrics ? working with francophone songs. Week 11 Revision. Week 12 Final test. Week 13 Correcting final test.

Students can: - use constructions for expressing passive, time expressions and relative pronouns reasonably well; - tell mysterious stories and express their opinion on what is behind the mystery; - understand negative news; - comment on issues related to everyday life in oral and wtitten way; - understand more complicated texts related to familiar subjects, e.g. visual arts.

Students can: - express events that happened before another action in the past; - understand more complicated texts in passé simple; - express feelings, regret, reproach and hypothesis; - describe their favourite place and its history; - understand descriptions of particular places in a tourist guide; - use grammatical structures for expressing indirect speech in the past reasonably well; - understand longes personal letters; - express hope or dissapointment.
