Course content
Week 1-2 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Education, school system in the CR and in the world, science and research Week 3-4 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Human body, illnesses and injuries, medical care, health insurance Week 5-6 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Physical appearance and personality, gestures and non-verbal communications, stereotypes Week 7-8 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Fashion and life style, trends in living, everyday objects, design Week 9-10 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Travelling, transportation, technology in contemporary world Week 11-12 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Material and non-material culture, cultural events, cultural heritage, culture today and tomorrow

professional knowledge
Students can - take part in a dialogue about everyday life topics - understand the main ideas of authentic texts and specialist style texts dealing with general topics of simple structure - find both important and detailed information in texts - understand information in texts of their field of study (both heard and read) - express their opinions and justify them - write more complex texts on general topics, or simple texts dealing with a specialist topic
learning outcomes
Students are able to - use common grammar structures in everyday life situations in an adequate way - understand spoken word on TV and the radio corresponding to vocabulary covered in the courses so far - use with a good degree of certainty vocabulary and phrases enabling them to communicate without problems in common situations - express their opinions and attitudes, belief and uncertainty and provide arguments for these - write texts of different style and of simple structure - find and select important information in authentic texts - present (in both writing and speaking) their field of study - take part in a discussion, evaluate suggestions and react to them in an adequate way
