Course content
Content Week 1-2 (8 hours) Communicative areas: CV, jobs, work relationships, job interview; telephone, email Week 3-4 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Life in a city, giving directions, shopping - questions, apologies Week 5-6 (8 hours) Communicative areas: House and home, subjects of daily need Week 7-8 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Science and technology, IT Week 9-10 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Food and drinks, shopping, restaurants and services - dealing with complaints, requests, questions, objections Week 11-12 (8 hours) Communicative areas: Leisure, hopes and plans - expressions of wishes and requests

Students can - take part in a dialogue about everyday life topics - find the main and most important ideas of authentic texts - use common grammar structures in everyday life situations in an adequate way - understand basic information in texts of their field of study (both heard and read) and express their views on such information - use a large common vocabulary from everyday life in an adequate way and use basic terminology of their field of study - write texts of simple structure on general topics
learning outcomes
Students can - use common grammar structures in everyday life situations in an adequate way - start a small talk in an adequate way - use with a good degree of certainty vocabulary and phrases enabling them to communicate without problems in situations which require a direct exchange of information - express their opinions and attitudes, belief and uncertainty - write short texts of simple structure used in everyday life (a message, e-mail, response to an advertisement, a request etc.) - write short texts of specialist style - find and select important information in authentic texts which deal with general topics and do not have a complicated structure
