Course content
1. Definition of basic terms and concepts: political system, systems theory, comparison of political systems, Near East, indicators of democracy and openness of political systems 2. - 3. Northern belt - Turkey, Iran 4. - 7. Fertile crescent - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Sudan 8. - 9. Arabian peninsula - Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar 10. - 12. North Africa - Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Tunis 13. Final discussion

learning outcomes
Graduates will be able to identify the basic elements of political systems and discern between them according to the typologies presented. They will be able to explain the principles of operation of political systems of selected states. Students will be able to compare the elements of political systems, distinguish between the formal constitutional principles and political practice.
